Uh. No.

And this year instead of teaching co-ed math, they are teaching no math at all.

What's the logic there?Tracee Sioux, Sioux Ink: Soul Purpose Publishinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06511311972798310564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8066901051112310981.post-17437971465449489402008-11-19T13:18:00.000-06:002008-11-19T13:18:00.000-06:00This was very interesting. It is meant to attend to the Multiple Intelligences that can sometimes fall along gender lines, but not always.

It seems to me that if the boys were failing, it makes a significant case against whatever they were doing. And I wonder if they adjusted their teaching practices to mirror what the girls were getting or if both classrooms started out with the same methods. Researchers would need to know this!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8066901051112310981.post-90200603117093006632008-11-18T15:31:00.000-06:002008-11-18T15:31:00.000-06:00That's a freaking great idea Lynnie. Why not?Tracee Sioux, Sioux Ink: Soul Purpose Publishinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06511311972798310564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8066901051112310981.post-33986889185265201062008-11-18T14:57:00.000-06:002008-11-18T14:57:00.000-06:00I agree with both those comments. As a teacher, I would have to say that in each class a good handful of boys were stereotypically wild and active, but there were always just as many boys who were incredibly polite, or shy, or verbal, or artistic. The same could be said of the girls. There may have been a dominant type, but I could never say 100% of boys were one type, or that 100% of girls were. Never. It's isn't fair to pigeon-hole kids without knowing anything about them other than their sex. Hmmm. I wonder if they'd could ever just put out two classes based on learning styles and just let kids sign up for either one?Lynniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10621633881622541213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8066901051112310981.post-74676999520597441492008-11-17T09:53:00.000-06:002008-11-17T09:53:00.000-06:00That's a good point Carol. But, there are quiet well-mannered boys in Ainsley's class who are just as disturbed by the rowdy children who always get in trouble (some are girls).

I'm very curious about the teaching methods used in the girls' math class at this school. Maybe both genders should be using those methods if they were so effective?Tracee Sioux, Sioux Ink: Soul Purpose Publishinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06511311972798310564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8066901051112310981.post-7006775869242865502008-11-17T09:44:00.000-06:002008-11-17T09:44:00.000-06:00When I met with my 9th grade boy's teachers they a...When I met with my 9th grade boy's teachers they all said similar things. The boys are wild and hard to control in 9th grade, a lot of time is spent trying to get control, but Isaiah isn't one of those students. So if there were separate classes for the wild, rowdy boys, and the calm, peaceful girls, which class do you think Isaiah should be in? Add to that his trouble with being easily distracted and you can see how wild and rowdy classes become a problem.Carol Sahahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08207133242168939508noreply@blogger.com
