New Website Launch Party

I'll be unveiling the new and improved Empowering Girls: So Sioux Me website on Monday, Jan. 12.

We're having a Launch Party and you're invited. Bring all your friends.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you keep coming here to discuss girl issues with me.
One of the most exciting features will be my ability to interact with you, my loyal and insightful readers. Currently, I use blogspot and it's quite difficult to interact with my commentors and keep track of your blogs. But, I'll be switching to wordpress and it will allow us far more ability to easily interact.

I'm also renaming the site. New name, fresh design, same great content. You're going to love it.

Did I ever tell you my husband Jeremy is a talented graphic artist and designer? He's designed some fabulous t-shirts, magnets, posters and stickers for girls and the people who love them.

Because I love you and want to encourage you to go get your friends and bring them back I'll be having a huge give away all next week. Items from the new store will be included. So seriously, tell your friends - please. Post it on your Facebook, put it on your blogs, Twitter it, give it a Kirtsy, Stumble or Dig. Someone call Oprah! You're probably going to win something.

The new site will also feature a newsletter that I hope you'll sign up for when the invitation pops up.

So, come back here on Monday - you'll be redirected to the new website - where you'll be greeted by a beautiful header featuring the all Poster Girls you've sent in and you'll have a chance to win great prizes.

In honor of The New Years Resolutions I'm going to be running a series called Fit Girl. The Fit Girl Series will look at the obesity epidemic children are facing in this country and how that impacts girls. We're working on being way more active in our family and I want to share that with you. My husband designed a special Fit Girl t-shirt so you'll want to pick up a few of those.

It wouldn't be the same without YOU.

Lily, Accessory Puppy

Lily 1.jpg

Dorothy had Toto.

Lily 3.jpg

Annie had Sandy.

Ainsley has Lily.

Meet Lily. Our newest Empowered Girl.

We adopted this little terrier last week from our neighbor. My children already knew and loved this dog.

This dog came with her own jewelry box. Seriously. She has several different blinged out collars, a Bratz bed, heart-shaped food bowl, various jeweled charms and a very fashionable purse/dog carrier.

Ainsley is just eating this genderization of dogs right up.

Lily 4.jpg

Daddy had always said NO to a dog. But, Ainsley put a dog on her dream board. Now, it's "yes, but only outside."

I hope our children learn a lot about love and responsibility from Lily.

Model Marriage

One thing I know for sure - your daughter will find it much easier to have a healthy marriage if you and your spouse are modeling a healthy marriage. Same principle applies to sons.

Of course, marriage is the most misadvertised institution on earth.

Turns out it's a lot harder than it looks. Riding off into the sunset for happily ever after is more like 50 years of sometimes painful compromise.

My husband and I are participating in a healthy marriage program. We're fostering a social once a month at our church and we made this commercial to generate interest and try to get people to make their own marriages a priority.

It's one of the most empowering things we do for our children.

Are you doing anything special to foster a healthy marriage or to model healthy marriage for your daughters (and sons)?

Link Sluts. Really?

I just saw this in "professional" marketing material for an upcoming book directed to women who want to work at home.

"BTW, we're sluts for links so if you have a spot on your web site or blog, please feel free to send us a little link-love."

REALLY? You're using "SLUTS" in marketing material? Maybe you should leave the word in junior high and porn. Especially if the primary target is women who have children (you know, likedaughters.). You think this is hip? Try offensive to your target audience.

Sluts - we didn't like it when we were in junior high - what makes you think we've grown to love it?

Poster Girl - Send Photos of Your Girls

hazel&lula3rockamidoingokay.JPG

Next Monday, Jan 12, I'm celebrating my 2 year Blogoversary by relaunching Empowering Girls: So Sioux Me. It's going to have a fresh new look and the same great content, plus some other great features. I can't wait. One of the main components will be to use YOUR daughter's photos. Please read on to find out how you can create positive media for your daughter.

Check out Hazel or Lula rock climbing, one of the daughters of Vanessa from Am I doing Okay? Rock climbing the perfect metaphor for what we're trying to teach our daughters they can do.

I've gotten some EXCELLENT and inspiring photos of girls doing really awesome things. It is obvious to me that parents are putting no limits on their daughters, In fact they are making huge efforts to be sure their daughters know they can, in fact, do anything. It brings a lump of joy to my throat to see these wonderful and brave girls be themselves.

"Look out world!" that's all I've got to say.

Please send more photos. Tell your friends.

This is an open call for photos of girls.

Girls of any ages, any size, any color, any religion, any ethnicity, any culture, doing anything you feel is empowering, including just be-ing.

I'm remodeling Empowering Girls: So Sioux Me. For my header, I plan to get a Flickr plug-in, that will allow the header to feature 5-6 different photos of girls. They'll pop up randomly out of an album that I'll create using the photos submitted for that purpose. It will be a public flickr account.

I will also use the photos as "cover art" on my features and stories (see that picture at the top, that's what I consider "cover art.") IF you are a blogger I love to link to your blog in the photo caption on the days that I run your daughter's feature photo with a feature story. You do not have to be a blogger to submit photos of the girls in your life.

I will not run identifying information about any girls, no last names, no locations, no school names.

I will also vow to use discretion and not post the photos of girls on controversial topics. For instance, I might write about eating disorders, but I promise not to post your daughter's photo in any way that implies she has one. If I ever run your daughter's photo on a story that makes you uncomfortable please email me and I will immediately remove it.

I reserve the right to reject any photo for any arbitrary reason.

I will need permission and copyrights to publish the photos. If she's not your daughter, you need to send me permission from her parents.

Please copy and paste this paragraph into an email with the low-resolution, internet-ready photo attached:

I give permission for Tracee Sioux to publish my daughter's photo on her empowering girls website. I understand the photos will appear randomly by computer generation in the header and may appear as cover art for a feature story for an unlimited time. I understand that no identifying information will be given about my daughter beyond her first name.

Send to traceesioux@yahoo.com.

If you're a blogger, please include whether you would like your blog linked in the caption on any cover art.

Thank you so much for sending me photos of your wonderful girls!
