Roloffs & Gosselins

By Tracee Sioux

My two favorite family television shows just revved up again on TLC Mondays with Jon & Kate plus 8 and Little People, Big World.

Little People, Big World is about Amy and Matt Roloff. They are little people or dwarfs. They have three average height children and one dwarf child.

Jon & Kate Gosselin were a normal couple with some fertility issues. They scored some twins with their first pregnancy and Kate convinced Jon they should have "one more." They got six. Oh and this poor mother is a compulsive cleaner with 6 toddlers.

Most reality television doesn't have any relationship at all to reality. These two families are REAL. They deal how I deal - with a tone. It's the arguing and bickering and real-life family interactions that keep me rolling in my seat the whole time.

When Kate gets all bossy with Jon in the toy store and then he tells her Stop talking to me like I'm a dog I laugh my head off. They took 8 small children to a toy store and that's the worst thing that happened. Ha! I see people with one whinny brat come out of the toy store worse off than that. Or they try to get sextuplets dressed to go somewhere and and finally Jon snaps Yes! I only told you 17 freaking times! and I'm just so proud of them for actually leaving the house.

When the Roloffs take their family on a road trip in a motor home, to see where Matt proposed to Amy, and they fight the whole time. Finally Amy goes on a rant:

Look at me! I do not want to leave trash in the fire pit! This will be enough to piss me off do you know that? I don't know why I even came. My God, you people argue about everything!

As someone who is trying to get a grip on her tone to improve her own slightly less than perfect family life these two shows are like pure love and joy to watch.

We may not talk to each other so nicely sometimes, but we're still here pulling for the same cause and that's evidence that we love each other, explains Kate. Here, Here Kate.

Kate and Amy are my modern-day mother heroes. I nominate them both for Mother of the Year.

I love J&K+8. It makes me feel silly for being so paranoid about having one baby. Omigod I saw the cutest baby in family court today. It was the teensiest little thing. Can you tell I'm SO ready to have one??? Key word, ONE.

That's what poor Kate said too!

My mother in law would wish twins on me and I would ask her "why do you hate me? What did I ever do to you?"

One baby IS Hard. You're right to take it seriously.

I don't know where to ask this.....in the skiing episode of Jon and Kate, at the end of the show, it says "In Loving Memory of Hope." Does anyone know about Hope? What happened? Who is that?

No, Sorry I do not know who Hope is. But does anybody have some rare pics of the Gosselins that could be sent to me??

Tracee, I just got done reading some comments you left on the blogfabulous site and I really admire you. You can tell in all aspects that you are an amazing friend and in a sense, protector to Jon, Kate and their family. I'm really proud that you are standing up for their family! God is in control of everything, and he gave Kate those children because he knew she could not only handle it, but excel at it with great love!

Kate, Mother of the Year??? Are you nuts? Yes she has eight children, she loves them and is an adequate mother. But Mother of the Year? She yells at them about nothing, doesn't brush their teeth and expects them to.. all mothers/fathers should brush their chidren teeth for them until they are 7-8 yrs of age. At the same time the child also brushes their teeth...hence they learn how to do it properly. No wonder the little ones all ready have had cavities. She needs to be patient of them, not the other way around. She choose to have 8 children, she knew she had cleaniness, etc phoebias; the kids don't. They should not have to deal with her hangups. Screaming at them for having gum? My God. How about talking gently to them about why they are still too young, although they aren't. My granddaughter has been chewing gum since she was 1 years old. Her mother taught her to throw it away when done, never sallow it and if it doesn't fall out she tells her mom immediately to prevent any probems. Not Kate, just yell. So effective (not). And her poor husband. She shows him no respect at all. I think she is trying but she has a lot of growing to do herself. PS doesn't anyone besides me see the negative impact the attention the little ones get from this show is putting on Maddie? Such an unhappy child.
