Barbie Kicks Bratz ASS!

barbie.jpg

Ding Dong The Bratz are dead!

Barbie killed the whole pack!

Bratz Dolls will no longer be sold after this Christmas season because they infringe on a copyright Barbie (Mattel) happens to own, so sayeth The Court.

Carter Bryant, in typical "mean-girl fashion," evidently conceptualized the rottin little Bratz while under contract with Mattel and then illegally sold the concept to MGA Entertainment.

Earlier in this cat fight The Bratz was court-ordered to pay Barbie $100 Million in lost sales. Mattel attorneys said MGA made nearly $779 million on the Bratz line since it was introduced in 2001.

In a recent ruling, Judge Stephen G. Larson of the District Court in the Central District of California shut down the whole Bratz line.

The court has ordered recalls from stores, the shattering of molds used to make the hideous little beasts and they are no longer to use the brand name The Bratz.

Who wants to join me in a gleefilled Hallelujah?

There IS a Santa!

Thanks to reader, and lawyer, Jonna for tipping me off on this legal triumph for all girls everywhere!

Maybe for New Year Eve we can get American Girl Dolls to take down Barbie!

More details at Associated Press.

Yay!!! But since Mattel owns American Girl now, I doubt AG will take down Barbie. AND they're retiring Samantha. I think they're headed toward "retiring" all the historical dolls and going just to American Girl of Today...that's just a wild guess, though. I hope it isn't true!

You're right Gina. Mattel does own American Girl. I guess parents are just going to have to keep buying the good dolls and not buying the bad ones. All Barbies aren't evil . . . right? The High School Musical ones from last Christmas haven't been a terrible choice.

Relief. Now I won't have to fight the "sorry you can't have a bratz" battle with my daughter. I had been mentally preparing for the day. She received a barbie last week - space camp barbie - I liked the astronaut barbie.
And, nice graphic.

Fantastic news, ey?

I am thrilled!!!
And since this will now make the limited Bratz dolls a hobby enthusiast collectible, most of them(new ones) will be kept in sealed boxes to keep them pristine and girls won't be allowed to play with them. What a shame :D

This is wonderful news! My daughter is only two and I was dreading the day when she would start noticing the Bratz line. I wasn't looking forward to the fights!

Hey, Tracee, just got back in the country and knew this was brewing; but wow, what a holiday gift to media mamas, eh?

As I wrote on Shaping Youth though, there's irony in that Mattel wanted to do the 'Bratz bit' first, so who's to say if they would've been equally toxic or less so...That said, there's been enough outcry that Mattel should be able to ramp up the minions to see the writing on the wall that parents are NOT pleased at the lil' tartlets and hopefully will retire them completely rather than revamp and recamp under copyright protection.

Here's the link again for the Barbie/Mattel post on SNL/Amy P's 'Smart Girls at the Party' where I mentioned the lawsuit; REALLY hope Mattel is veering in this direction. (btw, your hubby rocks for creating that graphic!)
